SLEEPING IN A GALLERY

We talked to Sören Hullberg from Story Hotels about leadership, arts, and shaking things up. There’s a prize of 1 night’s stay for 2 at the hotel for the lucky person who tweets their artist in residence to @artworksjournal

Sören, we hear that you are good with horses. There is plenty of research about how the stables foster great leaders – could the same be said about an artistic background?

Good leadership is about communication and talent. I assume the same goes for artists, although perhaps they are less into team work?

How can you prove the artistic injection in your hotels makes a difference?

Our art makes people talk, that’s reason enough.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper and more profitable to not spend so much time and money on the arts in your hotels?

Cheaper yes, but not more profitable in the long run. Quality arts add value. We would spend much more on arts if we had the resources.

Not everyone likes the same things, how do you make sure people aren’t put off by certain things?

We don’t. Imagine if we tried to please everyone. Booooring! There are already enough hotels doing that.

The arts are available in galleries and other places, why do you have them in your hotels as well?

A bar and restaurant is a perfect place for people to look at, reflect on, and discuss the arts.
