Bertram Schilling

Bertram Schilling

Stockholm based painter Bertram Schilling is drawn to the atmospheric and spatial qualities of landscape and to its abstract possibilities. Through various media he describes the relationship with the changing environments around him. Bertram’s large oil paintings and wallworks transmit a distinct vibrancy, they are expressive in gesture and processual in character. His collages show a stricter organization and a more figurative approach, - connections are made between utopian landscapes, architecture and the human body. Bertram holds a Masters of Fine Arts from Kunsthochschule Kassel, Germany. From 1994 to 2003 he studied painting, art history and new media in Munich, Karlsruhe, Kassel and Barcelona. His work has been featured in exhibitions throughout Europe, including institutions as Pinakothek der Moderne München, Künstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin, City Gallery Wroclaw and Kulturhuset Stockholm. Recent grants and residencies: VCCA Virginia (USA), Kunsthalle Kempten (Germany), S.t.A.i.R., Graz (Austria), Center for Polish Art, Oronsko (Poland) www.bertram-schilling.com
