Luca Frei

Luca Frei (b. 1976 in Lugano, Switzerland) lives and works in Malmö, Sweden. Luca Frei is an artist with a longtime interest in the everyday life, the production of space, and the archive. His works often include aspects related to pedagogy and play in the shape of architectural interventions, narrative environments or presentation structures that invite public participation and dialogue. As exhibition designer, his interest lies in unpacking existing material, in extracting concepts and images from archival sources and amplifying them in space, bringing topic, contexts, and artworks in dialogue with each other. Luca Frei’s solo exhibitions include Kunsthaus Glarus; Bonner Kunstverein; Museo Cantonale d’Arte, Lugano; Lunds Konsthall, Barbara Wien, Berlin; Studio Dabbeni, Lugano; along with participation in numerous biennials such as the Cairo Biennial; the Prague Biennial; the Istanbul Biennial, the Gwangju Biennial. Group exhibitions include The National Museum of Modern Art Kyoto; Bildmuseet Umeå, Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Moderna Museet, Stockholm. Recent exhibition designs include Malmö Konstmuseum, Tensta Konsthall, Spånga; Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin, Malmö Konsthall; Azkuna Zentroa Bilbao; Tate Liverpool; MHKA, Antwerp; Nottingham Contemporary.
