In this summer’s exhibition at Spritmuseum we find ourselves amongst cries, howls, hisses, spins, and barks. We are transported from the polar circle to the tropics and back again by migratory birds, spiders and dancing starfish.
In the Absolut Art Collection some of the most well-known art pieces feature animals, like the spider in Louise Bourgeois’ piece, Ed Ruscha’s howling wolf silhouette, Maurizio Cattelan’s hungover mouse, and George Rodrigue’s little blue dog. Some animals are center stage, whilst others just a mere detail, however always accompanied by the real star, the Absolut vodka bottle.
As always in the Absolut Art Collection, the selection is colourful and versatile, featuring a variety of techniques and expressions. The artists represented stem from all over the world, some globally recognized and others more locally based. Almost all images in the art collection have been used in advertising at some point and in some part of the world. And are considered to be in a grey area between art and ad. The exhibition displays the original works.
