Att vara en barnpassare är bara ett sätt att skapa bilder.
Titeln relaterar till min personliga situation där jag samlade bilder av min omgivning under ett antal månader under 2019. Jag behövde då snabbt hitta ett arbete för att få fotfäste, som många andra nykomlingar som kommer till ett annat land. ”Barnpassaren” kan mycket väl vara en av de karaktärer som syns i det intuitiva berättandet och är utvecklad i serien genom kombinerade bilder. Serien kan också beskrivas som en indirekt dokumentation av den besynnerlighet som brukar finnas i sin upplevelse av att bo på en ny plats. Arbetet dokumenterar dessutom försöket att hitta sitt ”eget rum” utomhus, när det inte verkar finnas något metaforiskt eller bokstavligt utrymme tillgängligt.
”Baby-sitter” är full av trösklar och snubblande. Jag ser gärna fotografi som ett medium av kombinationer. En bild talar sällan för sig själv i mitt arbete, den kommer ofta i kombination med andra pusselbitar.
Mitt arbete baseras ofta på en stor corpus av bilder och därefter försöker jag leta efter den berättande aspekten av bilder och samtidigt reflektera över bildernas egenskap, både i utställnings- och bokform.
Jag är även fascinerad av ”intervallernas mystik” – som den franska konstkritikern Etienne Hatt skriver om när han hänvisar till konstellationer kring bildarrangemang som används av vissa konstnärer i nutid. Vad är det som händer bland bilderna då? Meningen som uppstår i dessa kombinationer kan jämföras med upplevelsen av att skriva intuitivt. Detta är ett tänkesätt, vars ursprung måste tillskrivas den digitala världen och vårt sätt att konsumera bilder i oändliga flöden – därför behövs kombination och konstellationer.

Being a baby-sitter is just a way to make images.
The title refers to the position from which I took and collected these photographs of my surroundings during a few months in 2019 as I had to quickly find a job as many other newcomers arriving in a foreign country. The baby-sitter might just as well be one of the unknown protagonists in the series as it develops itself in a discontinuous narration intuitively built among the pictures through the relations that may occur between them. This series could be seen as an indirect documentation of the uncanny feeling that every ”new place” is giving the one moving to it. It might as well document the attempt of finding a ”room of one’s own” outside, when no other metaphorical or literal space is available.
”Baby-sitter” is filled with thresholds and stumbles. I see photography as a medium of combination. An image rarely exists alone in my work as it is always about editing, combining, extracting or colliding images together. I base my practice on the use of a large corpus of images, being it either my own or found ones, I then attempt to reflect on the narrative aspect and nature of images in both the exhibition and book form.
What I also find fascination is the ”mystery lying among the intervals”, as the art critic Etienne Hatt puts it when writing about photographic constellations where pictures are hung discontinuously in the exhibition space or extracted from a different corpus. What is happening among those images? The meaning emerging from the created associations could be compared to the exercise of writing intuitively. It is a way of thinking that I probably owe to the digital world through the way we now consume images in an endless profusion – hence the necessity of a combinatory approach.
