Skomakeriet presents a solo show by Ylva Nissen. One Size Fits All is both an artwork and an ongoing process that explores spaces and composition.
The show is consists of a series of paintings, now consisting of 32 pieces, each piece is 25 x100 cm. Every piece was painted individually, focusing on composition of and shape in each piece. The compositions are therefore different every time they are shown and in the combinations of, and the relationships between, the simple shapes create a controlled yet exploratory dynamic. A jigsaw pattern appears where the parts at the same time seem to fit together and push each other apart, a sense of a simultaneous inclusion and exclusion – a both natural and forced balance.
In recent years the installation has become increasingly important to her – how the work relates to and changes the space. The foundation of Nissen’s work is painting but her focus is on the sum of the parts rather than the individual pieces.
