Naked Ape, is the highly anticipated solo exhibition by Maria Sandström,
Maria is known for her unique and characterful ape portraits which vividly capture the gamut of human expression while making thought-provoking observations about life. Her mischievous sense of humour and obsession with colour shines through her work, captivating a growing audience of contemporary art collectors.
Naked Ape features a new troop of quirky primates, immortalised in large canvas paintings. The centrepiece of the exhibition features Maria's most recent work - a limited edition series of hand-blown, glass, ape busts titled “Bolagsstyrelsen/board of directors”.
Maria says of her work: "My goal with this exhibition is to make people emotionally connect with the subject - to see themselves reflected back or to maybe find a new friend in the apes."
Maria began her career in London as an art director working in the film and TV industry before transitioning into painting. Maria has received recognition for her artistic talent, including awards from The Royal Society of Arts and the Notting Hill Art Club. Her work has been featured on Kulturnyheterna and her paintings have been sold in the UK, Australia, Los Angeles, Spain, and France. She received a Bachelor of Arts First class degree from the UCA University for the creative arts in the UK in 2003.
