Founded as a private company in 1981, Reykjavík Museum of Photography became a part of the Reykjavik City Museum and a venue to visit for photography fans.
The Museum has a broad collection of approximately six millions photographs of Icelandic and international photographers dating back to 1860s. The collections thematic is broad: from professional and commercial photography to amateur and personal family albums.
The approximately dozen annually held exhibitions bear different social and cultural contexts.
